Why go to Alaska… and not go Fishing?!?

Fishing in Alaska is a bucket list item for many.  If you’re going to check it off the list while visiting, ExperienceAK can help put you on the fish.

Silver (Coho) Salmon

Silver Salmon are acrobatic and tough. Your chances to fill your limit of Silvers comes later in the year, typically late August into October. Fall in Alaska is gorgeous. The air is crisp, the fishing is fantastic and colors are amazing.  Typically the rivers are freeing up this time of year as many anglers have already come and gone targeting the Sockeye run in the Summer.

King (Chinook) Salmon

Kings are the largest of the 5 Pacific Salmon species that flood into Alaska’s fresh water systems. The largest caught in the Kenai River weighed in at 97lbs. They be caught in both fresh and salt waters, but if you’re wanting to target one of Alaska’s most highly prized fish your timing is key. The runs are seasonal and typically start in around mid May and run into June and July.

Sockeye (Red) Salmon

There could be as many a million Reds running into the Kenai River alone. A true driving force of the local ecosystem and a way of life for many, the annual return of the Reds is a popular time of year. The early run coming in late May early June and the main run coming through in July.

Chum (Dog) Salmon

Not typically regarded as one the prize salmon in Alaska, Chum Salmon are tough and can grow into the 30lb range.  Generally fetching the lowest per pound  price… even though you may not ship home to share with family and friends you definitely have fun catching them.

Pink (Humpy) Salmon

Pinks are the smallest of the salmon running into Alaska, but are harvested in the greatest numbers.  They undergo one of the more wild transformations entering their spawning phase and typically run every 2 yrs.
